Absorbent Cotton Training Programme

Three days training programme on Absorbent Cotton Technology was organized at ICAR- CIRCOT during 2- 4, August, 2018. This self- financed programme was attended by eleven budding entrepreneurs from the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. Training programme was inaugurated on 2 nd August by the Director Dr. P.G. Patil. Participants were appraised about the current scenario of absorbent/surgical cotton, raw materials and processes involved in preparation of this product, eco-friendly preparatory processes, performance specifications prescribed by various Pharmacopoeia for absorbent/ surgical cotton, regulatory and certification issues, economics and business prospects of this industry and research developments by the institute in this field. Practical demonstrations of the processes involved in absorbent cotton preparation as well as product testing according to test methods prescribed by Pharmacopoeia were also given to the participants.  Training concluded with collection of feedback from trainees and distribution of participation certificates to them by Director in Charge, Dr. Sujata Saxena during the valedictory session held on 4th August, 2018. Participants found this training very informative and useful and appreciated the efforts of the institute in guiding budding entrepreneurs in this field.

ICAR-CIRCOT has organized a lecture on "Solar refrigerated-evaporatively cooled (SREC) mesh fabric structures for on farm storage of perishables" delivered by Dr. Sangeeta Chopra, Principal Scientist, Division of Agricultural Engineering, ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi on August 3, 2018 in Conference Room of the Institute. The lecture was attended by all scientific and technical staff of the Institute.

ICAR-CIRCOT conducted a self-financed five day training programme on” Quality Evaluation of Cotton”

ICAR-CIRCOT conducted a self-financed five day training programme on” Quality Evaluation of Cotton” during July 23-27,2018 at Mumbai. The training was inaugurated by Dr. P. G. Patil , Director ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai.

The course is aimed on basic cotton grading, cotton trading, fibre attributes and their impacts of yarn quality, contamination in cotton, marketing and commercial aspects of cotton, ginning and & mechanical processing and its effect on cotton economics. Hands-on training and demonstrations on length, fineness, maturity, tenacity, cotton grades, spinning and yarn testing was conducted. Theory on cotton fiber quality testing using High Volume Instrument (HVI) and Advanced Fiber Information System (AFIS) was thought and practically demonstrated. Cotton Association of India, (CAI), Cotton Green, was visited for showing cotton museum and commercial grading of cotton. There were 8 participants from Ginning and trading Industry. The training course was conducted with the guidance and encouragement from Dr.P.G.Patil.

During valedictory function Dr. Sujata Saxsena, Acting Director has taken the feedback of the trainees and ask about the training course.
