ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai Celebrates Mahila Kisan Divas

Mahila Kisan Divas was celebrated on 16th Oct, 2017 as per the directives received from ICAR, New Delhi.

Dr. P G Patil, Director of the Institute, in his address emphasized the role played by women in enhancing agriculture sector of our country. He lauded their contribution on and off the agricultural field since the pre-vedic era. He pointed out that women actively participate in home-grown agri-businesses. Government of India has decided to celebrate 15th October every year as an awareness campaign across the nation to sensitize women agriculturists about their health, education, equality rights and adoption of modern farming to empower them in the mainstream agriculture, He appreciated that this is a great initiative and hopefully this campaign will bring about fulfillment of the government's goal of doubling the income of farmers by 2022 with the help of competent women farmers and it will lead the country towards its second Green Revolution.
The senior administrative officer, scientists and other staff members also expressed their views towards the upliftment of women farmers through innovative ways.

ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai organized a Kishan Goshti-cum-demonstration programme at Ratnapur village in Deoli Taluk of Wardha District, Maharashtra under “Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav” programme

ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai organized a Kishan Goshti-cum-demonstration programme at Ratnapur village in Deoli Taluk of Wardha District, Maharashtra under “Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav” programme on 18th September 2017. Dr. P.K. Mandhyan and Dr. N. Vigneshwaran, Senior Scientists, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai visited the Ratnapur village along with the cotton experts, Dr. M.S. Kairon, Former Director, CICR, Nagpur and Shri G. H. Wairale, President, Agro-Plus Foundation, Nagpur. Mr. S.L. Bhanuse, Sr. Technical Officer from Ginning Training Centre, Nagpur supported the meeting arrangements. The farmers’ meeting was arranged in a temple premises. A total of 34 farmers attended the meeting. Various issues related to cotton cultivation, harvesting and trading of seed cotton were discussed and suggestions were given to the farmers. Checking of lint quality before selling to the factories, following of proper agronomic practices, judicial use of chemical pesticides were some of the issues discussed. Also, the farmers were sensitized about the production of briquettes and pellets from cotton stalks for value addition to the wastes. This meeting was followed by demonstration of pest & disease identification in cotton field during the field visit at Ratnapur village.

ICAR-CIRCOT trains researchers in Advanced Nanotechnology

In line with the Government of India’s skill development programme, a five day self-sponsored training programme on “Advances in Applications of Nanotechnology” was organized at ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai during September 11 to 15, 2017. Nineteen young researchers from Assam, Bihar, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh attended this training programme and received hands-on experience in synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials and their application in food & agriculture, textiles, composites, sensors, pulp & paper and catalysis. In addition to in-house experts, faculties from IIT Bombay and TIFR, Mumbai were also invited to share their expertise with the trainees. Dr. P.G. Patil, Director appreciated the interests shown by the participants from different areas of research work in attending this training programme.
