Three days training programme on Absorbent Cotton Technology

Three days training programme on Absorbent Cotton Technology was organised at ICAR- CIRCOT during 2- 4 August, 2017. This self- financed training was attended by ten budding entrepreneurs from different parts of the country. Training programme was inaugurated on 2nd August, 2017 by Director, ICAR- CIRCOT, Dr. P.G. Patil. During the training, participants were apprised of the current scenario of absorbent/surgical cotton, raw materials and processes involved in preparation of this product, research developments by the institute in this field, performance specifications for absorbent/ surgical cotton, economics and business prospects of this industry and regulatory and certification issues in setting up of absorbent cotton plant,. Practical demonstrations of various processes involved in absorbent cotton preparation as well as product testing according to test methods prescribed by Pharmacopoeia were also given to the participants. Training concluded with collection of feedback from trainees and distribution of participation certificates to them by Director, Dr. P.G. Patil during the valedictory session held on 4th August, 2017. Participants found this training very informative and useful and appreciated the efforts of the institute in guiding budding entrepreneurs in this field. Dr. Sujata Saxena, Principal Scientist & Head I/C of Chemical and Biochemical Processing Division was Coordinator of this training programme.

ICAR-CIRCOT received Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Hindi Patrika Award 2015-2016

Under Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Hindi Patrika Award Scheme (2015-2016), ICAR-CIRCOT, Matunga, Mumbai got third prize (Joint award) for Amber Patrika amongst institutes/Centres situated in A & B region. This award was granted on the occasion of ICAR foundation day i.e. 16th July, 2017 by Hon’ble Shri Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmer Welfare and Shri Sudarshan Bhagat, Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmer Welfare and received by Dr. P.G. Patil, Director of this institute. On this occasion Smt. Trupti Mokal, I/c, Rajbhasha Cell &AAO and Mrs. Prachi Mahtre, Librarian and I/c, Assistant Rajbhasha Cell was present.

Self financed three day training programme on Value Addition to Cottonseed

A self financed three day training programme on Value Addition to Cottonseed was organized at ICAR- Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai, 2017. Ten participants from industry, academia and researchers participated in this programme organized during 20-22nd July. The programme was inaugurated on 20th July, 2017 by Director CIRCOT, Dr. P.G. Patil, who welcomed the participants and informed them about the work carried out by CIRCOT on utilization of cottonseed and released the book containing the course material. Dr. Sujata Saxena, Principal Scientist & Head I/C CBPD told about the objectives and course content of the training. Shri A.K. Chowdhury, Secretary, All India Cottonseed Crushers’ Association (AICOSCA), Mumbai, was also present on this occasion and informed the participants about the activities of the Association in promoting scientific cottonseed processing.
The programme consisted of lectures on products obtained from cottonseed viz. linters, cottonseed hull, meal and oil and potential for further value addition to these products. Practicals and demonstrations on various analytical procedures for evaluation of properties of cottonseed and its products as also the processes for further value addition to these products were organised. The course ended with the valedictory function on 22nd July, 2017 where participants shared their experiences and opinion about the programme with the faculty and organizing staff. All the participants found the training very useful and they were interested in contributing to the further promotion and popularization of the cottonseed utilization for value added products.  The valedictory function ended with distribution of Certificates to the trainees by Dr. Sujata Saxena, Principal Scientist & Head I/C CBPD and Course Coordinator.
