Four days training programme on Value Addition to cottonseed was inaugurated at CIRCOT, Mumbai

Four days training programme on Value Addition to cottonseed was inaugurated at ICAR-CIRCOT on 29 th Aug, 2016 by the Director in-charge, Dr. Sujata Saxena, Principal scientist and Head in charge of the CBP Division. This training programme has been organised to appraise the participants about the potential of many technologies developed by the institute for value addition to this important by product of cotton cultivation and to make its scientific processing more attractive. Secretary, All India Cottonseed Crushers’ Association (AICOSCA), Shri A. K. Chowdhury also addressed the participants and released the book containing the training lectures, experiments and demonstrations. Four industry personnel from the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat and four students from Institute of Chemical Technology are participating in this self- financed training programme.

CIRCOT-Precision Lint Opener Inaugurated by ASRB Ex Chairman Dr C D Mayee

CIRCOT-Precision Cotton Lint Opener was recently launched by ASRB ex-chairman Dr CD Mayee in an inaugural function at factory premises in Hingna Industrial Area, Nagpur on August 08, 2016. The machine has been designed and developed jointly by CIRCOT, Mumbai and M/s Precision Tooling Engineers, Nagpur in PPP mode. This machine addresses the technology gap that long existed in the HVI testing laboratories where, in absence of right kind of equipment, trash analyser has been widely used for opening of cotton lint samples in testing fibre fineness. In case of trash analyser the more aggressive and excessive opening is achieved by saw band cylinder that adversely affects the micronaire value (fineness) and other fibre quality parameters. The speed of opening of samples by trash analyser machines is also very slow and it does not match with the handling capacity of HVI machine, which many times results in a tendency of testing samples without opening giving erroneous fineness values. The development of the CIRCOT PRECISION LINT OPENER comes as a great relief to the testing laboratories who now have the technological option to get the desired amount of lint opening with less time per sample opening and without any quality deterioration, which is very important in determining the market value of cotton. Many industry personnel were present on the occasion including Dr. M. K. Sharma, CEO, Ms. Bajaj Steel Industries Limited, Nagpur, Shri Rajiv Dubey, CEO, M/s. Sri Bhagirath Textiles Limited, Nagpur, Shri J. P. Mahajan, GM, Maharashtra Cotton Federation, Nagpur, Shri Rahul Bharatwal, President, CIS Laboratory, Nagpur and representatives from M/s. Ankur Seeds Pvt. Ltd, Nagpur.

ICAR- Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology (CIRCOT), Mumbai, conducted Training Programme on Quality Evaluation of Cotton

In line with skill development initiative of Govt. of India, ICAR-CIRCOT  conducted a five days training programme on “Quality Evaluation of Cotton” during July 18-22, 2016 at Mumbai. This programme focussed on basics of cotton grading, quality evaluation and its importance in trading, fibre attributes and their impact on yarn quality, contamination in cotton, marketing and commercial aspects of cotton, ginning & mechanical processing and its effect on cotton economics. Practical classes and demonstrations on length, fineness, maturity, tenacity, cotton grades, spinning and yarn testing was conducted.  Theory on fibre testing using High Volume Instrument (HVI) and Advanced Fibre Information System (AFIS) was taught and practically demonstrated. There were 8 participants from Cotton Trade and Industry. The training programme was conducted with the guidance and encouragement from Dr. P. G. Patil, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai.
