ICAR-CIRCOT conducted Skill Development cum Training Programme on “Post-harvest Management and Value Addition of Crop Residue”at Chad (West Africa)

CIRCOT conducted “In- country training programmeon Post-harvest Management and Value Addition of Crop Residue"at Chad underCotton TAP (Technical Assistance Programme) for Africa. It was implemented as per Second India - Africa Forum Summit (IAFS). The objective of this programme was to strengthen the human resource from government R&D, production and extension professionals and entrepreneurs from private sectors for ginning, quality of cotton and utilization of cotton by-products as cottonseed and crop residues.

 

The programmewas conducted during 12-15,October, 2015 at Moundou, Chad. A group of 20 professionals from different organizations from Chad engaged in development of cotton sector viz., ginneries, government and private sector, policy makers, production technologists, scientists and entrepreneurs attended the training programme.

Experts namely Dr. S. K. Shukla, Senior Scientist and Er. V. G. Arude, Scientist conducted the programme and had discussions with the policy makers including Secretary General, Director General and Director (Training) of Ministry of Agriculture, Chad for planning, implementation and future plans under Cotton TAP for Africa programme.

It was observed that replicating India’s initiatives in cotton productivity improvement, processing methods,and skill development, on farm practices and policies, post-harvest processing and value addition would benefit African countries. It would benefit to improve the bilateral relations of India with Chad and would be useful for building the future programmes for strengthening cotton sector.
