Agripreneurship Orientation Program (AOP) of RKVY-RAFTAAR

Agripreneurship Orientation Program (AOP) of RKVY-RAFTAAR scheme is aimed at providing an opportunity to students/youth to work on their innovative ideas on technological solutions/processes/products/services/business platforms etc. that could enhance productivity or increase efficiency in agriculture and allied activities, enhance remuneration/farmers’ incomes, rural economy and wealth. The interns will be given two months (60 hours) training cum hands on internship at the CIRCOT-R-ABI. Guided by experienced technology mentors and successful innovators they will be able to understand business concepts/nuances, strategy and gain practical insights into markets, challenges and develop strategies to resolve them. A stipend of Rs. 10,000/- per month will be granted from CIRCOT-R-ABI to these interns for two months during the hands on training period. After successful completion of the two months orientation programme, the CIRCOT-R-ABI will facilitate incorporation of entities for all viable business ideas by the interns. Selected interns will be eligible to apply for Idea/Pre-Seed Stage Funding, of grant in aid upto Rs. 5 lakhs per startup for converting his/her innovative idea into prototype/product. The selected interns will register his/her company before the release of the grant as per DIPP notification to get Grant in aid.

Eligibility Criteria: 
  1. The applicant should be an Indian citizen.
  2. The applicant should propose one innovative idea based on technology, service, business platforms etc. for increasing efficiency in agriculture and allied sector.
  3. The recipient should have an innovative initial business plan/proposal for the idea they intend to pursue.
  4. After successful completion of the initial two months of AOP, interns will qualify to submit application for receiving Idea/Pre-Seed Stage Funding.
  5. The selected intern should be registered for the incubation programme at the CIRCOT-R-ABI for the entire duration of Idea/Pre-Seed Stage Funding.
  6. The selected intern shall register his/her company before the release of grant or he/she has to be an Indian start-up as per DIPP notification. 
Selection process and funding support:  
  1. Application from eligible interns will be scrutinized and evaluated by CIRCOT-R-ABI Incubation Committee (RIC). Under this program, CIRCOT-R-ABI will select a batch of 30 agripreneurs that have a workable innovative idea. 
  2. A stipend of Rs. 10,000/- per month will be granted to AOP interns for two months during which they will be guided by experienced technology mentors and successful innovators.
  3. After successful completion of the initial AOP, interested interns aspiring to convert their innovative idea into a marketable prototype/product will present his/her business plan before RIC. The committee will evaluate the interns on the basis of progress made on their innovative idea during AOP and recommend the interns to RKVY-RAFTAAR Selection & Monitoring Committee (RC) for their final evaluation for Idea/Pre-Seed Stage Funding.
  4. The RC will evaluate and recommend the interns for Idea/Pre-Seed Stage Funding.
  5. A maximum of 20 idea stage startups registered with CIRCOT-R-ABI will be supported under this scheme. 
  6. A subsistence grant of upto Rs. 5 lakhs will be provided for each intern/startup under Idea/Pre-Seed Stage Funding.
Program Period: 

20th May 2019 – 19th July 2019 (2 months/60 hours)

  1. Duly filled and neatly typed application in prescribed format (Annexure I) with and passport size photograph.
  2. Letter of Authorization as per the Annexure II (only if applicant is representing a Team/ Company)
  3. Supporting documents as listed in Annexure III.

Seed Stage Funding (SSF) of RKVY-RAFTAAR

 

 

Seed Stage Funding (SSF) of RKVY-RAFTAAR scheme provides Grant in aid to Startups. Under this scheme financial assistance of maximum upto Rs. 25 lakhs will be granted to potential startups that have a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) based on innovative solutions/processes/products/services/business model in agriculture and allied sectors. The applicant incubatees would be provided funds as per their genuine requirements and as per appraisal/evaluation of their business plan by the RKVY-RAFTAAR Selection & Monitoring Committee (RC) and the decision of the RC in this regard will be final. The RC will not be bound to give any reason in case an application is rejected.

This support will assist the incubatees to launch their products/services/business platforms etc into the market and help them to the scale-up their operations as well as to attain business viability at faster pace. This support will also facilitate them to attract investments from angel/venture capitalists or taking loan from commercial bank, financial institutions for further scaling up of their business operations. 

With respect to above, a call for application is invited from eligible startups having an innovative ideas in technological solutions/processes/products/services/business platforms etc. and want to start an agri-business venture for Seed Stage Funding as Grant in aid to startups under RKVY-RAFTAAR scheme at CIRCOT-R-ABI, Mumbai.

 

Eligibility Criteria: 
  1. The applicant should be an Indian citizen
  2. All incubatees of  CIRCOT-R-ABI will be eligible for this funding after completion of two months training on the basis of consistent performance evaluated by CIRCOT-R-ABI Incubation Committee (RIC) 
  3. The recipient should be a registered legal entity in India 
  4. The recipient has to be an Indian startup as per Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) notification. This support is not meant for Indian subsidiaries of MNCs /foreign company
  5. A startup once supported by any other R-ABI will not be eligible to apply for CIRCOT-R-ABI for subsequent round of seed support.
Selection process and funding support:  
  1. The selection of startups having a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) based on innovative solutions/processes/products/services/business models in agriculture and allied sector shall be done by CIRCOT-R-ABI Incubation Committee (RIC).
  2. During the selection process CIRCOT-R-ABI will take into consideration any other grant–in–aid funding received by incubatee for the same activity/product from other GOI ministries. A self –declaration from the incubatee about such funding will be mandatory.
  3. After two month of training of incubatees, RIC will evaluate the progress of the incubatee and based on their performance recommend them for seed stage funding to RC
  4. RC will further evaluate and recommend the incubatees to the nodal division Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW) for seed stage funding.
  5. Nodal division, DAC&FW will approve and sanction the project of the incubatees based on recommendation of RC and release the first instalment of the grant–in–aid to CIRCOT-R-ABI for further disbursement to the incubatee.
  6. The CIRCOT-R-ABI would execute a legal agreement with the incubatee who is selected for the seed support and this agreement should be signed before the release of the first instalment of seed fund to the incubatee. The terms of agreement with incubatee/start up should be framed by the CIRCOT-R-ABI linking with the progress milestone, monitoring norms etc. Subsequent disbursement schedules should be linked to the achievement of milestones by the incubatee.

RKVY-RAFTAAR-Agri Business Incubator (CIRCOT-R-ABI)

 

The Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) is an important scheme of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare (MoA&FW), Government of India aimed at strengthening infrastructure to promote agripreneurship and agribusiness by providing financial support and nurturing the incubation ecosystem. A new component under the revamped scheme Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana - Remunerative Approaches for Agriculture and Allied Sector Rejuvenation (RKVY-RAFTAAR) has been launched in 2018-19. RKVY-RAFTAAR supports agribusiness incubation by tapping innovations and technologies for venture creation in agriculture sector covering Agri-Biotech; Agriculture/Horticulture/Natural Resource Management; Sustainable Agriculture/Organic farming; Animal Husbandry, Dairying, Fishery; Agri-Input tools and technologies; Micro Irrigation; Farm Mechanization and Agri Engineering; Precision Farming; Harvesting and Post-Harvest Processing; Food Processing; Supply Chain Management; Farm Retailing; Agri Extension Education; Internet of Things (IoT); ICT and Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture; Waste to Wealth (Value addition to Agro-biomass), Secondary Agriculture; Agri Clinics & Farm Health services, Cotton and Other Natural Fibres, Nanotechnology Applications in Agriculture, Green Composites, Paper, Pulp and Packaging etc. In this process, incubation facilities and expertise already available with participating academic, technical, management and R&D institutions in the country shall be utilized on an individual or collective basis to harness synergies. ICAR-CIRCOT has been bestowed with an incubator namely CIRCOT-R-ABI under this scheme in January 2019.

ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, established in 1924, a premier constituent institute of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, is engaged in carrying out basic and strategic research in processing of cotton & its agro-residues, development of value added products and quality assessment of cotton. CIRCOT has diversified its ambit to cover other natural fibers such as Banana, Coconut etc., and started pioneering work in nanotechnology and its application in textile finishing, natural fiber based composites, and environmentally benign technology for processing cotton textiles. The institute is also working on value addition to cotton biomass through particle board preparation, compost making, nanocellulose production, cottonseed oil etc. to provide additional income to cotton growers. CIRCOT is an ISO 9001:2015 certified institute and is an accredited laboratory under NABL (ISO 17025:2005), functioning as Referral Laboratory for cotton textile. With an established reputation of nine decades amongst textile industries, ginning industries and cotton farmers as a renowned technology developer, ICAR-CIRCOT is skilfully catalyzing the transfer of its technologies from lab to startups, entrepreneurs and farmers through the agribusiness incubation center.
