ICAR-CIRCOT, the lead centre of CRP on Natural Fibre has organized an internal review workshop in Mumbai on 5th and 6th January 2018 to discuss the progress of individual project running at lead centre and cooperating centres namely ICAR-NIRJAFT, Kolkatta; CICR-Nagpur; Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat and Tamilnadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore.
The meeting was inaugurated and chaired by Dr.P.G.Patil, Director, ICAR- CIRCOT and Consortia PI of the project. Dr. S. Sreenivasan and Dr. A.J. Shaikh former Directors of the institute attended the meeting as expert members on 5th and 6th January 2018 respectively. Dr. A.N. Roy, Director (Acting), ICAR-NIRJAFT participated in the meeting and deliberated about the various issues of the project. The meeting started with the welcome address by Dr.A.S.M. Raja, Principal Scientist & Project Coordinator followed by brief presentation about the CRP on Natural Fibres. Principal Investigators of the all the projects or their representatives participated in the meeting and made presentation about the progress and new research work to be undertaken for the period 2018-2020. All the scientists of the CIRCOT also participated in the meeting. Senior Administrative Officer, Assist Finance & accounts Officer of ICAR-CIRCOT attended the inaugural Session and briefed the guests about PFMS implementation in the project.
Dr.P.G.Patil during his address emphasized the need to fast track the progress of the projects to achieve the tangible results in the projects. Regarding undertaking new project proposal, he informed the house that the new proposals would be screened based on their ability to meet the following criteria
- National Importance
- Problems of the masses
- Problems of the country
- Entrepreneurship development
Dr. S.Sreenivasan during his address emphasized the need to take up the new projects addressing environmental related problems, Life Cycle Analysis in the production of natural and synthetic fibres.. He observed that though the fund allocation for the projects is less, PI’s can aim for good innovation as generally “Scarcity brings innovation”. He also urged all PIs to work hard to produce the desirable outcome during this plan period so that attempts can be made for further extension of the project beyond 2020.
