ICAR-CIRCOT celebrated “150 year celebration of Mahatma” & “Swachhta Hi Seva” campaign from 11th September to 2nd October, 2019

As a part of the implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission and the guidance received from Council vide D.O.No. 2/2/S(DWS)/19, Dated 30/08/2019, Institute has launched “Swachhta Hi Seva”  campaign from 11th September to 2nd October, 2019, across all Divisions/Sections and Regional Units. The theme for the “Swachhta Hi Seva”  for this year is “Plastic waste awareness and management”. During the period, Institute has conducted several cleanliness drives in various departments. On 02.10.2019, along with “150 year Celebration of Mahatma”, a rally was organized in which staff members of the institute took a procession from institute premises to Five gardens through Maheswari Udyan, Matunga junction with the chanting of patriotic songs and slogans against one time use plastics. After that, a plastic waste awareness programme was organized at Five Gardens in which staff members of the institute ceaned the plastic wastes in the gardens area. The Swacchh Bharat Abyhyan committee of the institute has made suitable arrangement for the smooth organization of the programme.

ICAR-CIRCOT in collaboration with Vivant UntamedEarth Foundation organized an event to spread awareness regarding conservation of Butterflies. A renowned lepidopterist Dr. Milind Bhakare delivered a lecture on the “Conservation of Butterflies”. An exhibition, to display various species of butterflies, through butterfly paper art by Mr. Paresh Churi was held in the institute premise.

Nanotechnology Training Organized at ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai

Nanotechnology Training Organized at ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai

ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Mumbai organized a five day training programme on “Advances in Applications of Nanotechnology” during September 23 to 27, 2019. Fourteenth in the series, this self-supporting skill development programme was attended by 21 trainees from various organizations including ICAR, SAUs, Colleges, and also, Business-Incubatee & Entrepreneur. The objectives of this training programme were to impart the basics of nanotechnology, synthesis of nanomaterials by physical, chemical & biological methods, characterization of nanomaterials, and their applications in textiles, composites, IPM, food & food packaging, fertilizers and effluent management to the trainees. Also, the environmental impact and LCA analysis of nano-based products were also dealt with. 

Dr. Sujata Saxena, Director In-charge, during her remarks in the valedictory function, congratulated the trainees from various organizations with diverse backgrounds for successful completion of this training programme. While answering the feedback received from the trainees, Dr. Saxena mentioned that inter-disciplinary research in a collaborative mode will help to progress further in applications of nanotechnology. Dr. N. Vigneshwaran, Principal Scientist & Course Coordinator briefed about the conduct of training programme and the various hands-on practical arranged to demonstrate the trainees with reference to preparation, characterization and application of nanomaterials. The training ended with the vote of thanks by Dr. A. Arputharaj, Scientist & Course Coordinator.        

A total of 21 trainees with 50% women participants, representing 8 states participated in this five day training programme.
