ICAR - CIRCOT Scientists Bestowed with ‘12th Doordarshan Sahyadri Krishi Sanman Award-2019’

A team of ICAR- CIRCOT scientists has been bestowed with 12th Doordarshan Sahyadri Krishi Sanman Award- 2019 for their remarkable research work in by-product utilization of cotton. The award was conferred upon the scientists by Honorable Dr. Anil Bonde, Minister of Agriculture, Government of Maharashtra on 3rd July 2019 at Mumbai. 

A team comprising of Dr. P. G. Patil, Director of the institute and Dr. S. K. Shukla, Dr. V. G. Arude, Dr. V. Mageshwaran, Dr. C. Sundaramoorthy, Dr. P. S. Deshmukh, Dr. A. K. Bharimalla realised the importance and economic potential of value addition to cotton stalk and developed commercially viable and eco-friendly technologies and products viz. briquettes, pellets, charcoal, activated carbon, particle boards, briquette based eco-friendly green crematorium, efficient pellet stove, compost and mushroom cultivation. These Technologies are useful for doubling cotton farmer’s income. These technologies not only generated renewable energy but also improved soil health and created rural entrepreneurship. This research work helped in creating business opportunities in establishing cotton by-product based industries in Vidarbha.

Presentation by Dr.Sundaramoorthy about his participation in "Regional Workshop on Promotion of Cotton By-products in Eastern and Southern Africa" organised by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD)

Dr.C.Sundaramoorthy, Senior Scientist, Technology Transfer Division was deputed to participate in the "Regional Workshop on Promotion of Cotton By-products in Eastern and Southern Africa" organised by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Geneva in collaboration with Cotton South Africa at Johannesburg during May 28-30, 2019. The regional workshop is a part of United Nations Development Account Project 1617K implemented by UNCTAD, Geneva. The presentation was made by Dr. Sundaramoorthy, C about his foreign deputation in the Institute on June 24, 2019, which was attended by HoD's, Scientist, Sr.A.O, FAO, AO, AF&AO, ACTO and above.

Presentation on “Development of nanocellulose based biodegradable active packaging films and edible coatings”

Ms. Renette Rodrigues, M. Sc. student (Food Science & Technology) of D. Y. Patil School of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Navi Mumbai has successfully completed her six months out-house project at ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology, Matunga under the guidance of  scientists Dr. Sharmila Patil, Dr. Archana Mahapatra and Dr. Jyoti Dhakane-Lad. The final report of the project titled “Development of nanocellulose based biodegradable active packaging films and edible coatings” was presented by Ms. Renette on 24th June, 2018 at 3:30 pm in Conference Room of the Institute. The presentation was attended by all scientists and technical officers.
