Former Directors (11)

CIRCOT has had a rich history of exemplary individuals as Directors leading our Institute. Following are their achievements in their tenure. 

Dr. N. Ahmad (December, 1930 to October, 1945)

Dr.Nazir Ahmed, M. Sc., Ph. D. (Cantab), F. Inst. P., succeeded Dr. Turner as the Director of the Laboratory in 1930. Dr. Ahmad studied at the M. A. O. College, Aligarh and the Government College, Lahore till graduation. He took the M.Sc. and Ph. D. degrees of the Cambridge University in 1923 and 1925 respectively after conducting research in Atomic Physics under the guidance of Lord Rutherford in the Cavendish Laboratory. On his return to India, he took charge as the Head of the Science Department at the Islamia College, Lahore. HE was also a member of the Punjab Provincial Research Council. Dr. Ahmad joined the Technological Laboratory as Assistant Director in 1930.


Dr. Arthur James Turner (January, 1924 – December, 1930)

Dr.Arthur James Turner, M. S., D. Sc., F. T. I., F. Inst. P., C.B.E., the eminent technologist took charge as the first Director of the Laboratory in January, 1924. After a brilliant academic carrier in the Universities of Cambridge and London, he was appointed at the National Physical laboratory, UK, to conduct research on aircraft materials and later became the head of the Fabrics Research Section of the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough. He carried out extensive research work on yarns and fabrics for which he was awarded the D.Sc. degree of the London University.
