Ginning Training Centre (GTC), ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cotton Technology (CIRCOT), Nagpur is a unique Research Centre of its kind and among 2-3 institutes in the world that organizes specialized training programmes exclusively on cotton grading and marketing, know-how for establishment of newer ginning and pressing (G&P) plants and management & operation of the existing G&P plants, etc. GTC is catering the human resources needs of the cotton ginning industry since 1985 by imparting training and carrying out R&D work, specifically oriented towards the need of the industry. Thousands of trainees across the country from different Govt. organisations as well as from Pvt. Industries have benefitted by the training programmes organised by GTC. Over 1000 trainees from GTC are successful ginners and cotton traders. Many GTC trainees are working in India as well as in abroad as gin managers, supervisors, fitters, etc. GTC has also earned its name in international arena as well by organising a number of skill development programmes for foreign delegates.
Recently, GTC has conducted a one-week training programme on “Double Roller Ginning Technology and Basics of Cotton Grading” during 26th to 31st July, 2021 at Nagpur in which 11 participants from states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Orissa participated. The lectures and hands-on practical sessions were conducted by highly experienced in-house faculties as well as external experts on Cotton Grading, Marketing, Operation & Management of Ginning and Pressing Plants and Oil Mills, etc. In addition, industrial visits to a gin machinery manufacturer i.e. M/s. Bajaj Steel Industries Ld. (BSIL), Nagpur, a spinning mill, a G & P plant and an oil mill were arranged with an aim to provide them an insight into working of the plants and to gain practical exposure.
Dr Sujata Saxena, Director, ICAR-CIRCOT, Mumbai and Dr M. K. Sharma, CEO and Whole time Director, M/s. BSIL, Nagpur addressed the trainees during valedictory function as Chief Guests through online mode. Dr Saxena conveyed her well wishes to the trainees for their future endevours and also expressed confidence that the knowledge gained in this training programme would certainly help in a great way in improving the overall bale quality produced by these participants while Dr Sharma urged the participants to procure the right quality machines for reducing break downs and maintenance costs.
On great demand from many stakeholders, GTC has scheduled to organise the next training programme on “Double Roller Ginning Technology and Basics of Cotton Grading” during Aug 16-21, 2021 at GTC, Nagpur.
