A team of ICAR – CIRCOT Scientists comprising of Dr. P. G. Patil, Director of the institute and Dr. S. K. Shukla, Dr. V. G. Arude, Dr. V. Mageshwaran, Dr. C. Sundaramoorthy, Dr. P. S. Deshmukh and Dr. A. K. Bharimalla has been bestowed with ISAE Team Award-2019 for their remarkable research work for the project ‘Utilization of Ligno-Cellulosic Fibre Based Biomass as Renewable Energy for Rural and Industrial Applications’ carried out under Consortia Research Platform (CRP) Project on Natural Fibres. The award was conferred upon the scientists by Prof. V. K. Tewari, Director, IIT, Kharagpur, Dr. K. P. Viswanatha, Hon. Vice Chancellor, MPKV, Rahuri and Dr. Indra Mani, President ISAE and along with other dignitaries present during 54th ISAE (Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers) Convention and International Symposium on ‘Artificial Intelligence Based Future Technologies in Agriculture’ held at Hotel Hyatt, Pune on January 7, 2020
The team has developed commercially viable and eco-friendly technologies from cotton stalk viz. briquettes, pellets, particle boards, briquette based eco-friendly green crematorium, efficient pellet stove, compost and mushroom cultivation and also developed cotton stalk supply chain model for industrial application. These Technologies are useful for doubling cotton farmer’s income. These technologies not only contributed towards generation of renewable energy but also improved soil health and created rural entrepreneurship. This research work helped in creating business opportunities in establishing cotton by-product based industries in India. These achievements were recognised by United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Geneva and promoted in Eastern and Southern African (ESA) countries for the development of cotton by-product based development activities.
